First-time voter
First time? No sweat.
Three steps, ten minutes, done. We'll walk you through registering, finding your polling place, and what to expect when you actually vote.
01
Check or register
First confirm you're registered. PA voters can look up their status here. If you're not registered, you have until 15 days before each election to register. Online, by mail, or in-person at the county office — all three work.
02
Pick your method
- In-person on Election Day: 7 a.m.–8 p.m. at your polling place.
- Mail-in ballot: request one by 7 days before the election; return by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
- Absentee ballot: same deadline, requires a stated reason (illness, work, etc.).
03
On Election Day
Bring photo ID if it's your first time voting at this polling place. Most polling places have sample ballots. If you're still in line at 8 p.m., stay — you have the right to vote. If anyone tries to turn you away, call 866-OUR-VOTE.
